Famous Indian Classical Dances

India is very rich in culture, dance and music. 

There are few famous Indian traditional dances that are originated during the ancient times and are also considered as the mother art of all classical dances. 

The Famous Indian Classical Dances includes : 

• Bharathanatyam

Bharathanatyam is well known in Tamil Nadu compare to the other states in India. It is popular and most practiced among the South Indians. The dance expresses the religious stories and devotions. Hands are often used in a series of mudras, symbolic hand gestures to express a story. The legs will be bent and the feet follows the rhythm of the song played.  

• Kathak 

Kathak is well known in Uttar Pradesh. Kathak is known as a dance form of love. The girls will express this dance by wearing bells around their ankles. 

• Kathakali 

Kathakali is well known in Kerala which is also known as God's own country. The make up done by the dancers will be very detailed and attractive, in where the faces will be painted as a mask kind of look. It is also a religious dance. 

• Kuchipudi 

Kuchipudi is originated from Andhra Pradesh. The dance is highly ritualized by making an introduction with burning of incense and sprinkling of holy water. 

• Odissi
  

Odisi is originated from Orissa. The dance is known for it's style, the movement of head, chest and pelvis with postures that indicates the temple sculptures.
