Ayer Itam, Batu Pahat, Johor.

Ayer Hitam simply means Black Water. A lively town, Ayer Hitam is always bustling with passing vehicles and people who travels north and south. 
Located in the district of Batu Pahat. Before the advent of the North–South Expressway, Air Hitam was a major route intersection leading to Melaka and Kuala Lumpur going northbound, Johor Bahru going southbound, Kluang and Mersing going eastbound, and Batu Pahat going westbound. It was a popular rest stop for many tour buses and travellers between Singapore and Kuala Lumpur. Visitors could find souvenir shops, restaurants and locals peddling to sell their vegetables.

 It isn't that hard to get to this place. If you're travelling from the North heading south along the North-South highway keep heading south and exit the highway at EXIT 244 Ayer Hitam. Upon exiting you will meet with the toll and be sure to keep on your left, after the toll please take the left turn without needing to wait at the junction. Continue on this path for about 20mins or to be precise 867 meters and turn left. Once the left turn has been made u will see some small wooden shopping lots on your right. You may park your car anywhere on the side of the road and walk across to get to shops. 




Now whats so special about this place? why is it crowded and famous? after all its just and old shop-lots probably built a couple of decades ago. Well ladies and gentlemen, that is exactly why the place is so special. If you have just got a new house with a huge lot, or just renovated your home with a little garden attached to it. Then this place is a must to visit!. First things first This place is well known for its ceramic items such as flower vases in an assortment of colours, photo frames, jars, ashtrays, and other home decorative items. For a closer look, you can also watch the potters at work. And the ceramics and decorations available here are so very cheap compare to any market price out there. One of the beauty being in Malaysia is the ability to negotiate in any things that you wanna get, well fellow readers this place can be said as God Of Negotiations and i am serious. 


This place used to be a very long stretch of wooden shops selling plenty things... such as carpets, sheets, decorative items such as flowers, vase oh! and please do no mistake for the quality of the ceramics as they are cheap. each ceramic you choose the customer can visually inspect it by themselves and all the ceramics and things sold here is NOT secondhand items.

SOUVENIRS ARE AVAILABLE EVERYWHERE THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE SHOPPING PLACE.



Aside from quality souvenirs, Ayer Hitam is also dotted with many stalls selling local tidbits known as 'kerepek' among the locals. These food items are fresh and prepacked for you, and sold at reasonable prices.

   




Amongst the famous ones are prawn crackers, steamed corn, tapioca chips, and the all-time must-try "otak-otak". 



The fruit sellers over there are very friendly, they would call you to have a look in their shop and even offer you some fruits for you to try
